Yeah, those “well-meaning” people really can come across that way, and frankly, they do sometimes deserve a (virtual) punch in the face. As a family who is in the process of doing our home study in preparation for adopting, I would probably have some fairly tart words for that “do-gooder.” Something along the lines of “oh that’s nice…”just” adopt. Mmm-kay, I’m going to let you ‘splain that one to the beautiful child who will become a part of our family…how we “just” adopted him/her because we couldn’t have our own kids. Yep, that’s gonna be YOUR job.”
